Love to hate

A few weeks ago, there was a poll on the local sports radio network ESPN700’s “Bill and Spence Show” that asked listeners to vote on the most hated figure in the “Holy War” rivalry.

For Ute fans, the choice was clear. Max Hall.

Now, this should have come as a surprise to very few. Even before the epic hate rant that Hall threw down in the press conference following the Cougars’ overtime win over Utah in Nov. 2009, Ute fans hated Max Hall.

The hate-mongering comments issued by Hall just gave the Utah fans justification and ammunition.

That pretty much sums it up. Max Hall is the embodiment of all negative stereotypes Utah fans associate with the Y that the majority of BYU supporters honestly don’t fit.

Hall is arrogant, self righteous, has a sense of entitlement, thinks all things associated with Utah are classless and below him, and he is a hypocrite, among other things.

Hall is an easy person to dislike. After his poor performance against Utah in ’08, even Cougar nation was more than ready to toss Hall under the bus.

This is why Utah fans love the following highlight. Its rare that you get to watch a person who has offended you receive their just reward and literally see them get what’s coming to them.

Kharma caught up with Max Hall in a big way.

As A BYU fan, I have always hated Max Hall. I have always thought exactly what your column says Dan, but unfortunately I am in the minority.
