Well, we are 1 week deep into the 2010-11 season and things are starting to shape up. I thought about maybe doing a week 1 predictions for the AP Top 25 but so little is known at that point it would be just guessing really. Now that we have seen at least a little from each team, lets roll out the week 2 predictions.
#25 Stanford at UCLA – Stanford has issues playing in Pasadena but I predict with Andrew Luck, they win this game. Stanford 28-17 UCLA
#23 West Virginia at Marshall – The “thundering herd” was trampled against highly touted Ohio State last weekend. Even though the game is on the road, I like West Virginia in this one. WV 27-10 Marshall
#22 Georgia at #24 South Carolina – Both Georgia and South Carolina will be playing without their leading offensive receivers this Saturday inWR AJ Green (Georgia) and TE Weslye Saunders (South Carolina). I like South Carolina in this one. Georgia 24-31 South Carolina
#21 Auburn at Miss State – I’m gonna go with the safe bet here and say Auburn won this game yesterday 17-14.
UNLV at #20 Utah – The hard part about this pick is deciding how much Utah will win by. Utah 49-7 UNLV
#19 LSU at Vandy – LSU has won the last 6 games against Vanderbilt, outscoring them 139-42 in the process. Although LSU did struggle in the second half of last week’s game against a depleted UNC team, I think they roll in this one. LSU 42-21 Vanderbilt.
Virginia at #16 USC – If there was a better opponent to get your defense back on track against, I cant think of one. Virginia may be 1-0 but they played and beat the Richmond Spiders in week 1. USC 52-17 Virginia.
#15 Georgia Tech at Kansas – Kansas was far less than impressive last week, losing to a Division II-A school in North Dakota State. Georgia Tech will dominate GT 35-7 Kansas.
#14 Arkansas at LA-Monroe – Week 2 tune up game for the Razorbacks. Arkansas 30-10 LA-Monroe
James Madison at #13 Virginia Tech – Look for Virginia Tech to come out firing after last week’s disappointment against Boise State. Virginia Tech 42-14 James Madison.
San Jose State at #11 Wisconsin – It took Wisconsin a little over a half game against UNLV last week to hit their stride and take off. They will continue where they left off with San Jose State. Wisconsin 45-6 SJS.
#17 Florida State at #10 Oklahoma – This is a tale of 2 openers. Florida State demolished Samford 59-6 while Oklahoma struggled against a rising Utah State, winning 21-14. If Florida State can get production early and take the crowd out of this one, I think they pull it out. Florida State 31-28 Oklahoma.
Iowa State at #9 Iowa – Look for QB Stanzi and RB Robinson for Iowa to overpower the outmatched Cyclones. Iowa 28-14 Iowa State.
South Florida at #8 Florida – Florida definitely showed some rust, inexperience, whatever you want to call it. If they don’t clean up a LOT on offense in practice this week, they are in trouble. Florida 30-27 South Florida.
#7 Oregon at Tennessee – Oregon put on a scoring clinic last week against New Mexico at home in Eugene. They will beat Tennessee, however, not by 72 i don’t think. Oregon 45-17 Tennessee.
Idaho at #6 Nebraska – Both teams thoroughly beat up their opponents last week. However, they were against the University of North Dakota (FCS) and Western Kentucky (one of the worst FBS programs). Nebraska is too talented to let this one go at home. Nebraska 35-21 Idaho.
Wyoming at #5 Texas – A few analysts are putting Texas on upset alert….pump the brakes. Wyoming will be improved in the Mountain West Conference this year but they do not have the talent to stay with UT at Austin. Texas 38-17 Wyoming.
Tennessee Tech at #4 TCU – Tennessee Tech….why can’t TCU pull a big following in Fort Worth when they are on many people’s National Championship game watch? Maybe its because they subject their fans to Tennessee Tech’s, yikes. TCU 55-3 Tennessee Tech.
#12 Miami (FL) at #2 Ohio State – Although I think Miami has the fire power to win this game 1 out of 5 times against Ohio State in “The Horseshoe”, I think this Saturday will be one of the other 4 times. Ohio State 31-28 Miami.
#18 Penn State at #1 Alabama – This should be an entertaining game. That being said, the Tide will roll. Alabama 28-14 Penn State.
There you have it. Can’t wait for this weekend as it should be packed full of action and we should see a bit of movement in the top 25 come next week.
